The famous Winckelmans factory is located on the outskirts of Lille in northern France.  The fifth generation of the family will soon be celebrating the 130th year of tile production on their site.  Extremely durable and suitable for use indoors and outdoors, Winckelmans tiles are tough enough for use on floors as well as walls.   They are UVA resistant, so their colour won't alter over time.  In addition, they are very stain-resistant.  Although different sizes, tiles from Winckelmans and Cinca, our other supplier of ceramics, can be used together as they are the same thickness.  Winckelmans tiles have a lovely matt finish and the colour, which derives from the base clay, goes the whole way through the tile so that cut edges are coloured.  Winckelmans does produce some speckled tiles (any we have are listed below)  but these are only sporadically available, so buy them while you can as stock levels are unpredictable.

Tile size:  ±20mm x 20mm x 3.5mm
Full sheet: 305mm x 305mm,  196 tiles
Part sheet: 152mm x 152mm, 49 tiles
Sheet coverage: 10.7 sheets per metre² (and allow extra for wastage)
Mounting: usually face-mounted on paper, but occasionally mounted on mesh.  Almost all have a smooth upper side and a lower side with indentations, but tiles with x2 smooth sides do arrive once in a while.
